What is a mahadasha?
A mahadasha is a long planetary period in the Vimshottari system. The full cycle runs 120 years across nine planets, and each one hands over to the next on a fixed schedule set by the position of the Moon at your birth.
What is an antardasha?
Each mahadasha is divided into nine antardashas, sub-periods running in the same planetary order. The antardasha is what usually accounts for the change of tone inside a long period.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Less than for most calculations. Dashas are counted from the position of the Moon, which moves about thirteen degrees a day, so a few hours of uncertainty rarely changes which period you are in. If you leave the time blank we use noon.
