What is Mangal Dosha?
A classical screening rule. When Mars occupies the first, second, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house counted from the ascendant, the chart is described as having Mangal Dosha, traditionally read as a caution about the temperament a person brings to close partnership.
Is Mangal Dosha bad?
It is a flag, not a verdict. Mars falls in one of those six houses in roughly half of all charts, so on its own it says very little. Classical texts treat it as one factor among many, and several conditions reduce it: Jupiter sitting with Mars, or Mars being in its own sign or exalted.
Why does the calculator need my exact birth time?
Because the rule counts houses from the rising sign, and the rising sign changes about every two hours. Without a birth time the house Mars occupies is unknown, so the answer would be a guess rather than a calculation. We ask for the time rather than assume one.
